Message from Elder Board Chairman – Dec 2024

Dear brothers & sisters,

As we near the end of another year, I want to take a moment to thank all the pastors, staff, elders, deacons & volunteers for an incredible year of service. Together, you have demonstrated steadfast commitment, working hand in hand with a clear focus on our Lord Jesus Christ’s mandate. Transitioning and stepping into a renewed culture is rarely easy in any organisation, yet you have done so with grace and determination. I commend you for staying the course and for your unwavering faithfulness.

For those who couldn’t attend the AGM, I’m delighted to share that Rohan du Heaume, Ric Leaver, and Grant Korn have been affirmed by the congregation to serve a two-year term on the Elder Board. Osvaldo, Stuart, and I will be stepping down from the Elder Board, and I will also be stepping aside from my role as Chairman. This year, we will be welcoming two Elder interns to the board as they join us in serving the Lord and Subi Church.

I have, however, offered myself to return for one year under Section 19 of the constitution to fill casual vacancies. This will be confirmed at the next Elders’ meeting in December, where the appointments for Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer will also take place. For me, this marks the beginning of a new season—a time to grow in my roles as a son, a husband, and a father.

I am deeply grateful and humbled to have had the privilege of journeying alongside you all over the past two years as the chair of the Elders. Despite my own feelings of inadequacy at times, I have learned so much from your wisdom and the depth of your knowledge.

I see parallels to how Paul prepared Timothy for ministry. In the same way, we are equipping our members to serve the Lord by serving His people. Let us press on in this good work, trusting in His guidance and provision.

As we enter the Christmas season, I encourage each of you to reflect deeply on the true meaning of this sacred time. Beyond the festivities and traditions, may we remember and embrace the unparalleled gift of Christ’s love and salvation. Let us seek ways to embody that love—through acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion—bringing light and hope to those around us. In doing so, we honour the profound message of Christmas: Emmanuel, God with us.

I leave you with this encouragement:

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58

May the Lord bless you all abundantly as we continue to focus on Him and faithfully serve His people.

With gratitude and blessings,
Sean Kum
Elder Board Chairman
