Internships

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”

Matthew 9:37 (NIV)

Subi Church’s vision is to bring in and build up disciples. A component of that vision is to increase the competency and confidence of Christians in ministry and leadership. The internship program at Subi Church aims to equip people for paid ministry and to develop Christians who want to lead others in a volunteer capacity. If you are hoping to grow in competency and confidence in ministry, we hope that you would prayerfully consider whether applying for our internship program is your next step.

We offer two pathways: Ministry Development Program (MDP) and Ministry Training Strategy (MTS). The two pathways are designed for different stages and levels of commitment. MDP is a part-time, one-year internship for developing ministry and leadership skills, while MTS is a full-time, two-year pathway for those seriously exploring full-time ministry.

You will likely find one pathway to best fit your situation, depending on your stage of life, your plans for future ministry endeavours, and your current ministry competencies. Take some time to look over what the pathways involve below, and please contact us if you have any queries.

Please consider this process with your community, your family and friends and those who know you best. Additionally, talk to your ministry leaders about your intentions to apply. Most importantly, we encourage you to spend time in prayer, and invite God to open and close the right doors, asking that He would give you and the staff at Subi Church wisdom as you engage in the application process.

Who can apply For an internship?

In order to apply to be an intern at Subi Church, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Have an active relationship with God and acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour
  • Be baptised
  • Regularly attend Subi Church
  • Serve in a ministry area at Subi Church
  • Gladly submit to the leadership at Subi Church
  • Have demonstrated consistent godly character to the leadership at Subi Church
  • Demonstrate a desire, capacity, and gifting to lead other Christians

Pathway 1: Ministry Development Program (MDP)

The MDP internships are initially 1 year part-time. These internships are suitable for a range of people, including volunteers, gap year students, Bible college students, and people considering ministry. The MDP internship will include the following:

1. Training

The MDP internship will include a training session once per fortnight during school terms. The training will be run by church staff and will cover practical skills pertaining to leadership and ministry.

2. Serving in Leadership

Most of the intern’s time will involve serving in at least one key ministry area. Our hope is to place you in a ministry area that will encourage you and stir your affections for ministry, while also providing a chance to learn and be challenged. In addition to your ministry area, you will have the opportunity to participate in other regular ministry activities conducted by church staff (i.e., assisting with Sunday services, pastoral care, ad hoc events etc.). The intention will be that each intern will be given responsibility and leadership in order to gain valuable ministry and leadership experience.

3. Coaching

Each intern will meet regularly with a coach from the pastoral team. The coach’s role is to encourage, provide feedback, and help the intern work towards the goals set within their ministry area.

How to apply:

To apply for the MDP internship, fill out the MDP Application Form. If your application is successful, you will progress to an interview stage before the final candidates are chosen.

Pathway 2: Ministry Training Strategy (MTS)

Subi Church also offers MTS internships. MTS is a full-time, two-year internship designed to equip people for ministry and help them discern whether full-time ministry is the right direction for them before committing to theological training. The MTS internship can be an excellent pathway for people who are already seriously considering full-time ministry or it can be a next step for those who have completed the MDP internship and wish to explore ministry further.

The MTS internship involves many of the same local components as the MDP but it also includes additional training and mentoring offered by an external provider known as “MTS”. You can find more about the MTS training program on The MTS Website.

How to apply:

To apply for an MTS internship, you must apply through MTS. Refer to the details outlined in Subi Church’s MTS Apprenticeship Details to fill in the MTS Application Form. The MTS program will conduct the initial screening of your application before moving forward with processing and interviews.
