Our Elders
Meet our elders
Rohan du Heaume
Elder (Chairman)
Rohan is married to Mary and they have three children and five grandchildren. His vision as an elder is to support the staff in ministering to the congregation and taking the gospel into the wider community.
David Skirving
Elder (Senior Pastor)
David grew up around the corner from the church but married a Sydney girl and moved over east. He worked as a medical doctor for a number of years before realising he just wanted to tell people about Jesus all day – so he became a pastor with a fire in his belly for evangelism. David did a two year internship at St Matthias church before studying for four years at Moore Theological College. He returned to Perth and worked as a pastor at Dalkeith church for seven years before joining the team at Subi Church. He is married to the beautiful Mya and they have three children: Saasha, Sophie and Justin.
Ric Leaver
Elder (Treasurer)
Richard (Ric) grew up in the hills of Perth and attended sporadically, the local Catholic Church. He came to understand the saving work of Jesus later in his adult life. While travelling through New Zealand he met his future wife Gail and they were married in 1971. They have four adult children and are also blessed to have 11 grandchildren. Ric and Gail have been attending Subi Church for well over 20 years. Ric is retired but has held senior executive positions in aged care services, a private hospital, two Australian-based overseas-focused mission organisations and an independent church school. Ric is passionate for the future of the Subi Church and its outreach, that it blesses others as it has blessed him and Gail through the Word and fellowship.
Duy Pham
Elder (Secretary)
Duy has been attending Subi Church since 2010. He is married to Jae Ann and they have two young daughters. Duy first began serving at Subi as a welcome coordinator for Subi Kids which gave him a deep appreciation for all those that sacrificed their time to build up God’s kingdom. Since then, he has been involved with teaching in the Cubbies class at Awana and has served at several annual Kids Holiday Clubs. He currently leads a small group and is on the teaching team at the evenings men’s Bible Study Fellowship class. Duy was born and raised in Perth and trained locally as a gastroenterologist. His hope is to humbly serve the congregation and be attuned to its needs.
Ray Forlin
Elder (Executive Pastor)
Ray grew up in Perth and worked as a Software developer for 15 years before responding to the call to train to become a Pastor and completing his Masters of Divinity at Vose Bible college in Perth. His ministry experience includes many years of leadership at Bible Study Fellowship, followed by an internship at Subi Church, before becoming our Youth Pastor and Associate Pastor. In 2017 Ray became the Senior Pastor of East Fremantle Baptist and served there for almost 7 years before returning as our Executive Pastor in 2024. Ray is married to Caren and together they have 3 boys: Samuel, Zachary and Judson.
Grant Korn
Elder
Grant is married to Catherine and they have three adult children. Grant was a high school teacher for 13 years, specialising in French language, history and accounting. He also completed a Master of Arts in Biblical Counselling at Colorado Christian University and worked as a part time school counsellor for two years. He was head of the humanities department for six years. He was a board member of the Baptist Schools Association in WA, establishing a network of new schools in the 1990s and early 2000s. He then moved into the business world in 2006 and has owned and operated businesses in food manufacturing and property maintenance. Since 2018 Grant has volunteered at Wandana to provide monthly community meals and ongoing friendship to the residents. Having now sold his businesses, he has more time to be involved in church ministries.
Soon Jin Ong
Elder
Soon Jin is married to Karen, and they have two teenagers, Eliza and Benjamin. He works as a registered nurse at Hollywood Private Hospital and SJOG Subiaco. Soon Jin sees his workplace as his main place of ministry. He regularly prays for God’s guidance and for opportunities to pray with his colleagues and patients. He finds great joy in these moments and often feels blessed by the chance to share God’s love with others. Soon Jin’s been part of Subi Church since 2009. Over the years, he’s served in the kids’ ministry, and is now involved in Café Melody and leading a small group. During his time as an intern, Soon Jin came to see just how important and meaningful the role of an elder is — to care for and shepherd the church and care for its congregation.
Steve Turner
Elder
Stephen is married to Mariko and have two children. They have been attending Subi Church since 2008 and enjoy the fellowship, faithful preaching of the Word, the children’s and youth programs and involvement with several small groups over the years. Stephen is currently helping lead a men’s small group meeting and Mariko assists with café ministry. He is now mostly retired from his previous employment as a geologist which took him all over the world and required constant travel, so now he can spend more time at home with family and greater involvement in church activities. He is passionate about mission, across the road and around the world, having been involved with international student ministry in Denver and ROPE ministry in Perth. As an elder, with God’s help, he sees his role to support the current church leadership and ministry teams and encourage the congregation to maintain a gospel outlook and grow in love for each other.
